The Webb County Sheriff’s administrative offices will also be closed but all other services will continue on their regular schedule.

Webb County Commissioners will meet Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. for their regularly scheduled meeting at the Webb County Courthouse located at 1000 Houston Street.

Judge Danny Valdez Community First Inc., City of Laredo Parks & Leisure Services, Laredo Young Lawyers Association, & Texas Parks and Wildlife will host the 18^th Annual Fishing Derby, which will take place on Saturday, May 26^th at the “Ranchito” at the Casa Blanca State Park from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The annual event allows Special Education students enjoy the experience of fishing through the coordination and assistance of several community partners.  Joining Judge Valdez and Special Education students from United and Laredo Independent School Districts, as well as, other schools are event supporters from the:  Webb County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and, Hunting and Fishing experts Onyx Benavides and George Garza.

WHY:        The City of Laredo continues to respond to calls of bites from strays. Many of these are found to have not been vaccinated putting persons at risk for rabies. Owners must be conscious of how important it is for them to vaccinate and protect not only their pets and their families but also our community.

The cost for pet rabies vaccination is $12.00.
Distemper/Parvo shots available upon request.

In addition, as of August 1, 2011, pet registration is required by microchip as per City Ordinance.

Laredo’s rainfall this week and expected rain forecast for this weekend has forced Texas A&M International University to move its traditional outdoor Spring Commencement Exercise indoors Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12.

            “Taking the safety of our graduates and their families into consideration, we have decided to hold the Spring Commencement Ceremonies indoors. Recent rains have saturated the grounds and made them unstable,” said TAMIU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Pablo Arenaz.

Ceremonies for the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business and the College of Education will be held Friday, May 11 at 8 p.m.in the Kinesiology-Convocation Building (Gym).

Candidates for graduation for the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Nursing and Health Science will have their Commencement Ceremonies Saturday, May 12 at 9 a.m. in the Kinesiology-Convocation Building (Gym).

Both Commencement ceremonies will stream as live broadcast in the Student Center Theater, room 236.

Additionally, Commencement rehearsals, originally scheduled to take place on the University Green, have also been moved indoors to the Kinesiology-Convocation Building (Gym).

Rehearsals for the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business and the College of Education will be Friday, May 11 at 9 a.m.

Rehearsals for the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Nursing and Health Science will be Friday, May 11 at 11 a.m.

Laredo, TX – The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Webb County Community Coalition will be teaming up on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations United Middle School 700 Del Mar Blvd. and Ryan Elementary School 2401 Clark Blvd. and TAMIU(Student Center) 5201 University Blvd. for a prescription drug “Take Back” Initiative that seeks to prevent pill abuse and theft. On this day, the DEA will oversee the collection of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

What:              The first youth Relay For Life of Laredo.  Over 700 students from Borchers Elementary to participate in the American Cancer Society Relay Recess sponsored by HEB.  Relay Recess gives our youth the opportunity to be involved in the battle against cancer and lets them see, through their own eyes, why cancer research is so important. Relay For Life is one way you can help raise money to assist in those efforts.

 Laredo Independent School District campuses and administrative offices will be closed on Friday, April 5, and Monday, April 9, in observance of the upcoming Easter Holiday.

The LISD Tax Office will also observe the Easter Holiday and will be closed Friday, April 5, and Monday, April 9.

All LISD campuses and administrative offices will re-open Tuesday, April 10. Classes for LISD students will resume Tuesday.

 Due to the upcoming Easter holiday, all United Independent School District campuses and departments, will be closed on Friday, April 6, 2012 and Monday, April 9, 2012.
